Car snatched, restaurant owner’s wife kidnapped

An unidentified person allegedly kidnapped a woman, wife of a restaurant owner, and snatched his car near the Golden Temple area here on Sunday night.The kidnapper demanded money from the victim and later dropped her near Taran Wala Pul on the main GT road before escaping towards the Tarn Taran side. The police have launched a hunt to nab the unknown suspect.

Gurinderbir Singh, ACP, East, said Anish Dhawan, owner of a restaurant, told the police that last night, he along with his wife were returning home from their restaurant around 11.30 pm. They had barely gone 50 meters when Anish found that he had forgotten his mobile phone at the restaurant. Anish said he left his wife in the car and went to restaurant on foot for the mobile phone. Anish said when he returned, he found his car missing. He said an auto-rickshaw driver told him that a man had driven away in his car. Anish immediately informed the police about it.

Anish said later, his wife’s location was traced to Taran Wala Pul. Anish said when he went to the location, he found his wife standing there. The incident had left her shocked and frightened. Anish said the kidnapper appeared to be a drug addict and was demanding money from his wife. The suspect told his wife that he was being followed by the Ludhiana police and he needed money.

The ACP said police teams were searching for the suspect and he would be arrested soon. A case of snatching and kidnapping was registered at the Division B police station in this connection.
