Campus notes: Youth parl at Sarup Rani College

Amritsar: Local Nehru Yuva Kendra organised a district-level youth parliament programme at Sarup Rani Mahila Mahavidhalaya. The chief guest of the programme was Deputy Commissioner of Police (Urban) Pragya Jain. District youth officer Akanksha Mahawariya provided information about Mera Bharat portal to all the participants. Jyoti Bawa, the founder of Punjabi Samvad, discussed the topic of women’s power with the youth, and the second speaker of the programme, Dr Harmandeep Singh, discussed the topic of sports—India’s power. In the voluntary activity of the programme, Dr Sumanjeet Kaur, assistant professor, psychiatry, discussed substance abuse and HIV/AIDS. The demonstration parliament organised under the programme became the special attraction, in which participants presented discussion of the parliament proceedings and its management proceedings. About 750 young participants were present in the programme.

Pact signed for new age courses

In a significant step towards fostering educational collaboration, Amritsar Group of Colleges inked a memorandum of understanding with upGrad Abroad, via Elite Education with an objective to jointly promote and facilitate student enrolment in various educational programmes offered by Elite Education. Under the MoU, both institutions have outlined specific programmes details for Bachelor and Master’s programmes.

DAV college hosts seminar on J&K

The Department of Political Science of DAV College, Amritsar, organised a national seminar on the theme “Jammu and Kashmir since Abrogation of Article 370: Peace Prosperity and Development Initiatives” sponsored by the ICSSR-NWRC Chandigarh. While addressing the gathering, Principal Amardeep Gupta said after the abrogation of Article 370, a boom in tourism and economy has helped the people living in Kashmir experience positive vibe that was palpable in the Valley in the pre-militancy days. Keynote speaker professor Baljit Singh Mann, head, department of political science, University of Jammu, traced out the chronology of events related to Article 370 since independence of the country. He shared valuable statistics related to various parameters like violent incidents and peace, economic prosperity, development projects and other initiatives.

Doctorate degree for DAV teacher

Dr Poonam, a teacher at DAV Public School, Lawrence Road , Amritsar, was awarded the doctorate degree in Hindi by Tony Abbott, former Prime Minister of Australia, the chief guest of the convocation ceremony held at Lovely Professional University, Phagwara. The subject of her research work was ‘Psychological study of Hindi stories for children translated by Sahitya Academy.’ In her research work, she surveyed the psychological problems of children and also found their appropriate solutions. Dr Poonam was honoured in the school by principal Pallavi Sethi. Principal, while congratulating her, said her research would surely guide the adults of the contemporary world to facilitate switching over of Gen Z from technical world to the world of fantasy.
