Another abandoned girl child in Panghura’s cradle

Panghura received a girl child on its premises recently. With this addition, the total number of infants in its shelter home has reached 175. The girl child was received on the evening of January 22 as an unknown person left her in the cradle kept outside the gate of Panghura. The child had been admitted to Parvati Devi Hospital for a medical check-up and was found perfectly healthy.

Alka Kalia, Assistant Commissioner, Complaints, and Secretary of the Red Cross Society said the Red Cross Society had adopted a procedure to send these children to this shelter home. “Till date, we have saved the lives of 175 infants who were abandoned at our doorstep and the shelter home was started in 2008 to rescue and rehabilitate baby girls,” said Alka Kalia. Of them, 147 are girls and 28 are boys.

Newborn found abandoned at railway station

A newborn was found abandoned at the railway station platform here on Sunday. The Railway police shifted him to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. The police said they made repeated announcements about the child but no one came to take his custody. Later, we took him to the Civil Hospital. However, authorities at the Civil Hospital referred him to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital for better care, the police said.

Dr Rakesh Sharma, professor surgery and spokesperson for Guru Nanak Dev Hospital, said, “The child is being taken care of by the department of pediatrics.” He said the child was critical as he had remained out in the extreme cold. “A team of specialists is looking after the child and his condition is under control,” he said adding that officials of the Child Protection Department had been informed about the child. The administration has asked city residents to help them identify newborn’s parents.
