Amritsar, July 14

The Panthic Talmel Sangathan, a group comprising various religious organisations, on Wednesday announced that it would contest the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) elections. The organisation demanded that the management of the SGPC elections should be under the control of the state government instead of the present format of the Central government.

Addressing mediapersons here, Giani Kewal Singh and Jaswinder Singh, convener and co-convener of the sangathan, respectively, said no political party was sincere about panthic matters. They alleged that due to politicisation of the Shiromani Committee, there was no place for Sikh concerns in the state politics.

They demanded that the Punjab Vidhan Sabha should pass a legislation that the SGPC elections should be held under the management of the provincial government. They said its elections were not held for many years.
