Amritsar district administration, NDRF conduct mock drill on emergency, rescue operations

The district administration in collaboration with the NDRF conducted a mock drill regarding how to deal with an earthquake-like tragedy at the District Administrative Complex here on Tuesday.

Apart from district administration officials, Fire Brigade, police department, Health Department, etc, participated in this mock drill. In this regard, in a meeting attended by NDRF personnel and heads of various departments, District Revenue Officer Tapan Bhanot said the main objective of the mock drill was to save people’s lives from any kind of natural calamities like an earthquake.

He said in case of any untoward incident, the administration first informs the Fire Brigade and the police and a relief camp is set up in nearby schools. The relief camp should be fully equipped with medical assistance and food. In order to avoid any untoward incident, all the departments should coordinate with each other under the District Disaster Management Plan so that immediate action can be taken in case of any untoward incident.

He said that preparations should be done in advance to deal with any possible situation. Assistant Commandant of NDRF DL Jakhar said NDRF jawans participated in the mock drill and all of them were fully skilled to deal with any incident. He said his battalion can reach here within two hours after receiving the information to start the rescue work to prevent any untoward incident in the district.

He said currently 16 units of NDRF were working across the country. Out of which one unit is located in Bathinda.

On the occasion, Rajinder Singh, DSP (Headquarters), Amritsar Rural, Manpreet Singh, Commandant, district Home Guard, Praveen Kumar and Karthik Verma, engineers of the Water Supply and Sanitation Department, Harjot Kaur from the Civil Surgeon’s Office, Yashpal, a Fire Brigade Officer, Hardyal Singh from Food Supply Department and officials of various departments were also present.
