Amritsar Cops crack down on drug peddlers

Arrest 22, seize 234 gm of heroin and 780 intoxicating tablets in 24 hours

In its drive against drug peddlers, the city police seized 234 gm of heroin and 780 intoxicating tablets after carrying out cordon and search operations, besides laying nakas at vulnerable routes. The police arrested as many as 22 persons in separate instances in the past 24 hours.

Those arrested were identified as Avinash Singh of Dhapai Road, (30 gm heroin), Didar Singh of Gumtala (30 gm heroin), Sunny William and Pargat Singh (25 gm heroin), Gurpreet Singh (25 gm), Deepak Kumar (15 gm), Dharminder Singh (15 gm), Sachinbir Singh (11 gm), Robin Singh alias Ruby (10 gm), Gurdev Singh (10 gm), Kuldeep Singh (10 gm), Manmeet Singh alias Gifty (10 gm), Sandeep Singh (10 gm and 120 intoxicating tablets), Gurcharan Singh (10 gm), Sukhdev Singh and Jaspal Singh (8 gm), Satnam Singh (5 gm), Sajan Singh (5 gm) and Maninderjit Singh (5 gm). Similarly, Savinder Singh was held with 270 sedative tablets, while Bunty and Sukhpreet Singh were arrested for possessing 210 and 180 intoxicating tablets, respectively.

According to the police, separate FIRs under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act were registered against them and further investigations were under progress to ascertain links to nail drug peddlers.
