Amritsar artistes’ short film nominated for 12th Dadasaheb Phalke Award

At a time when independent movies are gaining some ground among the audience through streaming platforms and digital media, a short film by city-based writer, poet and now filmmaker Dev Hindavi, who has made it to the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award-2022 nominations.

Masquerade depicts the metaphor of love between two sexes, showing the depth of relationships, their worth over professions. The film is a self-funded project by Dev Hindavi and has been only screened at the festival circuit, including the International Film Festival of India at Goa. We hope that it gets due recognition. ‘Masquerade’, a 20-minute film, is based on complex human relationships through a contemporary lens and is among the nominated films under the short film category at Dadasaheb Phalke Award that will be presented on April 29.

The film has been directed by Dev Hindavi and stars city-based theatre person and poet Arvinder Chamak and actor Dilraj.

Calling it a big step for a small, humble movie, Chamak, who has earlier been part of two short films and numerous acclaimed plays, said it would go a long way in getting independent films the due recognition.

“Masquerade depicts the metaphor of love between two sexes, showing the depth of relationships, their worth over professions. The film is a self-funded project by Dev Hindavi and has been only screened at the festival circuit including the International Film Festival of India at Goa. We hope that it gets due recognition,” he said. The team also plans to take the film to the Cannes and is holding talks with several streaming platforms for an OTT release as well.
