Amritsar, July 27

Celebrating ageless women achievers from the district, FICCI FLO hosted an event to honour women, who contributed progressively in the city’s development and to the community. The special guest to honour these women was actress Zeenat Aman.

The actor, who seemed to break every possible stereotype that leading ladies of the 70s and 80s Hindi film industry made to fit into, shared that she found women of Amritsar amazingly talented.

“I feel happy meeting and interacting with such talented bunch of women, who are balancing careers and families with such grace. I believe that a woman can make all difference and these achievers who we honoured today prove it,” she said.

The event honoured women across different spheres, who have been working towards empowerment and community building whether through their business or philanthropy. Among them were senior BJP leader Laxmi Kanta Chawla, Dr Jasjit Chhachhi, a renowned gynaecologist, Dr Suprabha Arya, a noted danseuse, who had participated and represented the country in an international folk dance competition in 1942, Shukla Seth, entrepreneur and philanthropist, who runs a handicraft school, Dr Saroj Sanan, who at 93 is an author and had been an educator, and Ambica Omprakash, a philanthropist who helped set up Om Prakash Eye Hospital in the city.

Zeenat hailed these women achievers as game changers for the others to follow. Calling Amritsar a city of warmth, Zeenat shared how she would spent her two days shopping and visiting famous food hubs. “I loved the kulcha and lassi here,” she said.

FLO chairperson Shikha Sareen said FLO Amritsar in association with the Green Couple of Punjab — Geetanjali Mehra and Rohit Mehra — had started the drive “Be a Baghaban”. Under this initiative, each FLO member has adopted a plant and has vowed to be a plant parent and nurture it. “It’s a conscious step to combat global warming and make our planet greener,” said Shikha.
