AAP & BJP-led govts' stand on river waters not clear: Simranjit Singh Mann

On his maiden visit to the holy city after winning the Sangrur Lok Sabha bypoll, Simranjit Singh Mann said the AAP and BJP-led governments could not raise the issues of Sikhs and Punjab.

Talking to the media, outside the Golden Temple yesterday, he said leaders of both parties did not share their stand on sharing Punjab’s water. “As per the riparian law, water of Punjab cannot be diverted to Rajasthan yet the government was willing to invest crores in the same canal,” he said.

He asserted that he would raise the issues concerning the Sikh community such as non-holding of the SGPC election for the past 11 years, justice in the Bargarhi incident, misappropriation of 328 Saroops of Guru Granth Sahib by the SGPC, no apology from the Centre for the 1984 anti-Sikh riots and others in the Parliament. Besides, he would raise the pressing needs of Punjab such as reopening of international trade from the ICP and not allowing change in the character of the Panjab University.

He accused the Narendra Modi-led government for being anti-minority and said its leaders were uttering obnoxious statements to offend the Muslim community which would eventually spoil international relations with Muslim nations.
