615 students awarded degrees

Amritsar: Amritsar Group of Colleges (AGC) organised its sixth convocation and annual prize distribution event on Saturday. The ceremony was attended by Cabinet Minister Harbhajan Singh ETO, Public Work, Power & Energy Minister, Government of Punjab, and other dignitaries. chairman Amit Sharma, finance director Ragini Sharma and other faculty members were also present at the event. A total of 615 students of 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021 batches were awarded degrees. The minister inaugurated the ceremony. AGC principal Dr VK Banga said since its inception in 2002, AGC had scaled new heights of success in the fields of quality education, research and placements. In his address, Harbhajan Singh said the state government was all set to focus on better infrastructure and new job opportunities in the education sector. He motivated the students to develop a pragmatic approach towards life to make the world a better place to live in.

Religious event at school

Chief Khalsa Diwan members on Saturday welcomed Dr Inderbir Singh Nijjar by organising path of Sukhmani Sahib at Gurdwara Kalighar Sahib, Sri Guru Harkrishan Public School, GT Road. School staff along with CKD office bearers gave a warm welcome to the newly inducted Cabinet Minister. CKD member and patron Rajmahinder Singh Majitha, in his remarks, said for the first time in the history of Chief Khalsa Diwan, a president of the Khalsa Diwan had been accorded the high rank of being a Cabinet Minister. Dr Nijjar requested all members to work together for the betterment of the body and to motivate CKD to voluntarily render maximum services in committees constituted for smooth running of affairs of the Diwan.

Session on dental hygiene

Tarn Taran: A session on dental hygiene was organised at the local Universal Academy under the guidance of Principal Dr Sanjeev K Kocher for the pre-primary wing. Teachers talked about dental hygiene, common dental ailments, especially stressing on tooth decays and gum diseases. Measures used to prevent them were also discussed. Students were made aware of eating patterns and food choices which can lead to tooth decay, using multimedia. Students cherished the chance to gain knowledge about oral health and hygiene.

Eight offered jobs in Infosys

Final year students of DAV College, Amritsar, were offered jobs by Infosys. The students of college have been placed at several companies, of which over 75 students have been offered packages of Rs 5 lakh per annum. Principal Dr Rajesh said in a recent development, eight students had been selected for the role of operation executive through online placement drive by Infosys. Among the selected students, three students are in BSc (IT) and five in BCA final year. These students will be given an annual package of Rs 2.2 lakh per annum. Dr Rajesh said this year, there are many students, who have got jobs in over one multinational companies. So far, over 120 students have been successfully selected in reputed companies of the country and abroad and this process will continue. Dr Rajesh said apart from IT, companies related to banking sector, education sector and health sector had also shown interest in students of DAV College. Placement Cell in charge Prof Vikram Sharma said 35 multinational companies of the country are coming for college placement. /OC
