40 shopkeepers booked for violation in Ajnala

Amritsar: The Ajnala police booked 40 shopkeepers for violating the Disaster Management Act and Epidemic Diseases Act on Tuesday. The traders were demonstrating against Covid-19 restrictions imposed by the government. Shopkeepers, who were leading the demonstration, were identified as Pardeep Kumar, Ramsaran, Nand Lal, Bony, Kuldeep Singh, Amit, Vicky, Rocky, Bikram Pardhan, Gurnam and Vijay. Sub-Inspector Gagandeep Singh said the shopkeepers were demonstrating against the Punjab Government and violating guidelines issued by the District Magistrate. They didn’t have permission to protest. Apart from this, the police also booked more than 15 persons for violating the partial lockdown. The rural police also targeted motorcycle-borne persons, who are violating the orders by allowing a pillion rider on one bike. Some persons were booked for not wearing masks and maintaining social distancing. Two shopkeepers were booked for opening shops offering non-essential items and violating the timing of the curfew.
