4 of family held for thrashing man

A video had gone viral in which he was forced to drink water from a jutti

Days after a video went viral in which a family, including women, was seen thrashing a Sikh man, forcing him to drink water in Punjabi jutti, the police have arrested four of the family members in the case.

On the other hand, the family accused the Sikh man, who operates an e-rickshaw of stalking and harassing their daughter.

The allegation

  • The victim identified as Sukha Singh of Mehoke village told the police that he runs and e-rickshaw from Jandiala Guru to Amritsar city. He said three days ago, he was at the city centre near the bus stand, when Gurbhej Singh and Dilbagh Singh and two persons threw red chilli powder in his eyes and bundled him in a car. They took him to their house where the accused tore his turban and brutally thrashed him. He alleged that they even made him sign some blank papers and forced him to drink water in a jutti
  • When he got unconscious, some people took him to Manawala Civil Hospital, from where he was referred to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. He alleged that he had given Rs 2 lakh to Dilbagh Singh and Sharanjit Kaur to buy a plot. They were not returning his money. On demanding it, they thrashed him

Those arrested have been identified as Gurbhej Singh of Sultanwind village, Dilbagh Singh of Mehoke village, Sukhwinder Singh of Rajewal Rakh Jhitte village and Sharanjit Kaur of Mioanda village. The police also booked Pargat Singh, alias Baggu, of Mehoke village, Kulbir Singh and Ramandeep Kaur besides several unidentified persons in the case.

When he got unconscious, some people took him to Manawala Civil Hospital, from where he was referred to Guru Nanak Dev Hospital. He alleged that he had given Rs 2 lakh to Dilbagh Singh and Sharanjit Kaur to buy a plot. They were not returning his money. On demanding it, they thrashed him.

The police have now registered a case under Sections 365, 342, 295, 323 and 120-B of the IPC. Raj Kumar, in-charge bus stand police chowki and Investigating Officer, said four persons were arrested, while efforts were on to nab the remaining suspects.

Family of the accused alleged that Sukha used to stalk and harass their female members.
