Amritsar, December 3

Two foreign women jail inmates were booked for allegedly scuffling with the jail staff and other prisoners on Wednesday. The police have registered a case against the duo following a written complaint by the jail authorities. Those booked have been identified as Veeran Umrao of Nigeria and Flora of Tanzania.

Davinder Kaur, in-charge, Woman Ward (Central Jail), said in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic, a videoconferencing facility was set up in the jail complex. She said after attending the call, Umrao tried to take away the tablet from warden Raman Kumar.

She said as the warden raised an alarm, other staff members, including Rajwinder Kaur, Gagandeep Kaur, Manpreet Kaur and Baljit Kaur, rushed to the spot. Umrao entered into a verbal duel with the staff and used foul language against Raman.

She said Flora also interrupted the staff from discharging their duties. She went in barrack number 2 and started quarrelling with another woman prisoner and ransacked the barrack.
