15-year-old among 20 succumb to virus in Amritsar district

The district on Sunday witnessed 20 deaths due to Covid-19, including a 15-year-old girl, pushing the toll to 1,112.

The district health authorities also reported 529 new cases taking the total count to 37,241. The new cases include 394 influenza-like illness cases and 135 contacts of positive patients.

As general residents are reporting the shortage of beds in hospitals for Covid-19 patients, the district administration has stopped posting the status of bed availability on its website after May 6.

The administration last posted the bed availability status on May 6 as a result of which people have to run from one hospital to another for a bed.

The administration had earlier asked the residents to go through its website for authentic and first-hand information on Covid-related issues. “People are not aware of the bed availability status and how can they handle the situation in case a family member needs hospitalisation,” complained a resident.

Meanwhile, the district health auhtorities reported the recovery of 470 patients with which the total count has increased to 30,496.

At present, the district has a total of 5,633 active cases.

2 deaths, 14 +ve cases surface in Tarn Taran

The health authorities reported two Covid-19 related deaths in Tarn Taran district on Sunday. With this, the death toll has increased to 242 in the district.

The deceased include Narinder Kaur (60), who breathed her last at Fortis Hospital, Amritsar, and Lakha Singh (80), who was under home isolation.

The health authorities reported 14 new positive cases, with which active cases reached 724.

Out of these, 372 were isolated at their homes. A total of 1,04,782 beneficiaries have been inoculated in the district so far.
