14 booked for freeing drug case accused from custody in Amritsar

Youth was arrested with 9-gm heroin

The rural police have arrested 14 persons, who allegedly got a youth released from police custody forcibly on August 1.

The accused have been identified as Jagdish Singh, Bunty alias Tunda, Rajinder Kumar alias Jindi, Kamal Kumar, Rinku, Lovely alias Phila Saba, Happy, Akashdeep Singh and Biro, all residents of Chawinda Devi, Nirvel Singh alias Nahila, Balwinder Kaur and Harpinder Kaur, residents of Variam Nangal. The main accused, Akashdeep Singh, is still absconding.

Jaswinder Singh, SHO at the Kathunangal police station, said, “No culprit, who takes the law into his hands will be spared. The police officers are being accused of keeping Akashdeep Singh in the police station for five hours. If police have recovered drug from him, he should be arrested and sent to the police station.”

Residents of Chavinda Devi village falling under the Kathunangal Police Station barged into the Chavinda Devi Police Chowki and got a youth released from the police custody on Monday. The youth, Akashdeep Singh, was detained by the police for allegedly possessing 9-gm heroin. Later, a case was registered against him under the NDPS Act.
