14 arrested as police intensify crackdown on drug peddlers in Amritsar

Continuing its war against drugs and intensifying action against drug dealings, the Amritsar rural police have arrested nine persons, including a woman, for allegedly possessing narcotic substances in different cases.

Ranjit Singh of Thathi village was held with 1,780 intoxicating tablets from near Thathi village here. During checking, a police team signalled a car to stop, but the driver reversed the car and tried to escape. However, it was intercepted and the accused was arrested. Ranjit Singh was driving the car.

During search, the police found the sedative pills from his possession, but he could not produce and sale or purchase bill of the same. Therefore, a case under the NDPS Act was registered against him.

Similarly, the rural police arrested Ranjit Kaur of Baba Bakala Sahib ad recovered 203 intoxicating tablets and 5 gm heroin from her possession. The police said she was on foot when the police team caught her.

In another instance, the Kathunangal police confiscated 8 gm heroin from Shainty of Chawinda Devi village, while Husanpreet Singh of Basarke Bhaini and Manpreet Singh of Kotli Naseer Khan were found possessing 5 gm heroin.

Ajaypal Singh of Nepal village was arrested by the Bhindi Saida police with 20 gm heroin, while Manjinder Singh of Khasa and Resham Singh of Kotli Naseer Khan were held with 5 gm heroin. Similarly, Sajan Singh of Dharad village in Jandiala was nabbed with 2 gm heroin.

Meanwhile, the city police have also nabbed five persons for having narcotic substances. Navjit Singh aka Kallu of Mustafabad was arrested by the police with 320 intoxicating tablets, while Manpreet Singh of Mahal village and Rajinder Singh of the Sher Shah Suri road was held with 20 gm and 12 gm heroin, respectively.

Balwinder Singh of Varpal and Lovepreet Singh alias Judge of Nangal Dayal Singh village in Jandiala Guru was arrested with 5 gm and 12 gm heroin.
