Chandigarh, January 20
The state government has assured the Punjab and Haryana High Court that the remaining accused in Akali leader Dalbir Singh Dhilwan’s murder case would be arrested within a week. Taking note of the submission that Jails Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa would involve the victim’s relatives in a murder case, the court, meanwhile, ordered the recording of their “fresh statement” in the police headquarters.
“In case, this order is not complied with by the Punjab Police, matter may be handed over to the CBI,”the Bench ruled. The direction by Justice Ramendra Jain came on a petition filed against the state and others by Sandeep Singh and other relatives through senior counsel Puneet Bali and DS Sobti.
The Bench took note of the state counsel’s assurance, on instructions from DSP Prem Kumar, that the remaining accused would be arrested within a week. Seven persons were booked after the leader was shot dead a month ago. — TNS
