To promote chemical-free natural agriculture among farmers and provide pure fruits and vegetables to the public, the district administration has come up with a safe food market. It was inaugurated at Roshan Ground, here, by Deputy Commissioner Isha Kalia.
Speaking on the occasion, Isha Kalia said: “The Safe Food Market has been started to encourage farmers who are doing pesticides and chemical-free agriculture under Tandurust Punjab mission and to facilitate self-marketing. Besides, chemical-free organic agricultural products will be made available to the general public at reasonable price through the market.”
“On every Sunday from 10 am to 1 pm, the mandi will be functional, in which certified organic farmers of the district be able to set up stalls of their commodities and sell them directly to the customers,” added the DC.
The DC said it was a matter of pleasure that farmers of the district had received the Organic Agriculture Certificate from the Punjab Agri Export Corporation, adding that it would be a one of its kind market in Hoshiarpur, where only certified farmers would be allowed to sell their commodities to encourage chemical-free agriculture.
She said: “Such efforts will also be made at the sub-division level, so that the organic farming items could be provided to residents of the district.”
Chief Agricultural Officer Dr Vinay Kumar, Deputy Director Agricultural Science Centre Dr Maninder Singh Bounce, Dr Arun Sharma, Avtar Singh, among other officials of the Agriculture Department were also present on the occasion.
