Amritsar, January 17

With the police tightening the noose around family members and guarantors of the prime accused in the former Akali sarpanch Gurdeep Singh murder case, one of the accused had claimed responsibility at a social platform.

He claimed that it was a personal enmity that led to the incident and had no political motive behind it.

SSP (Amritsar Rural) Vikram Jeet Duggal said the police were investigating it.

Harmanjit Singh Bhullar in a Facebook post claimed that he, along with his two accomplices Harwinder Sandhu and Inderbir Singh alias Buri Basantkotia, had murdered him. He claimed that no other person was involved in the killing of Gurdeep Singh.

Harmanjit said the former Akali sarpanch was misguiding the police against them. Though they had asked him not to do so, things went out of control. He also accused him of cheating an innocent youth on the pretext of sending them abroad. He claimed that some of them committed suicide. He claimed that if they were to kill him due to the sarpanch elections, they would have shot him dead before the elections.

The police had booked seven persons, including Harmanjit’s father Nirmal Singh, in the murder case whereas only one person was arrested in the case. The police had also registered cases against Bhullar and Harwinder Singh’s families for harbouring gangsters.

Sources said the police were taking the help of intelligence agencies for the arrest of the suspects who had been evading arrest since the incident. The police were also tracing the location from where the post was made.
