The hospitality sector plays a major role in the growth of the travel and tourism industry of any nation. The average contribution of the travel and tourism industry in the world’s total GDP is about 10.4 %.

Given India’s rich cultural heritage including ecological and geographical diversity, its travel and tourism industry has great potential. As per a study by the World Travel and Tourism Council, India's travel and tourism industry is projected to grow at 7.1% CAGR(Compounded Annual Growth Rate).

This means the hospitality sector is going to witness a boom in the coming years. So,the sector will need a sizeable number of trained professionals. Like any other secor this sector, too ,requires some specifically trained professionals.

Some of the sought after career opportunities in the Hospitality sector or hotel industry are in the following departments/teams:

General Management: Responsible for the overall smooth functioning and operation of the Hotel

Food & Beverage Production/Management: This includes professionals like chefs, food technologists and catering managers.

Executive Housekeeping: The department maintains cleanliness and hygiene of the Hotel

Front Office Management: They are the first interface for any client to the hotel. They help clients with their queries and requirements as well as helping the clients in booking.

Convention Services Management: The team which manages various conferences, seminars and parties conducted by various clients and companies

Sales and Business Development: To increase the business of the hotel and promote special packages

Apart from the above, any big hotel requires lot of professionals from the field of accounting, finance, IT, Branding and many more.

While there are ample opportunities in the private sector, some prominent government sector recruiters include ITDC, IRCTC and state tourism departments.
