7 more villages declared drug-free

Under the campaign launched against the drug menace by the state government, seven more villages of Hoshiarpur district have been declared drug-free by the administration. The district now boasts of having 45 drug-free villages.

Deputy Commissioner Isha Kalia on Monday handed over drug-free village certificates to five villages of Mukerian subdivision—-Tangralian, Taggar Kalan, Sahora Kandi, Bachhowal Saroa, Patti Adarsh Nagar village Gera—- and Garhshankar subdivision’s Bugran and Chakk Musa villages. While handing over the certificates, SP Manjit Kaur, Mukerian SDM Ashok Kumar, Garhshankar SDM Harbans Singh and sarpanches-panches of these villages were present.

The DC said the sarpanches of 45 villages, which have been declared drug-free in the district, will be special guests at the district-level Republic Day function on January 26. So far, six villages of the Mukerian subdivision and 10 villages of the Garhshankar subdivision have been declared drug-free.
