28 crack PCS judicial exam, 21 women

Ludhiana’s Shivani Garg tops in maiden attempt

Ludhiana students dominated the Punjab Civil Services (Judicial) exam as six of the 21 selected women are from the district.

In all, 28 candidates have been selected. The top rank has been grabbed by Ludhiana’s Shivani Garg.

My hard work has paid off. I used to study on my own for up to nine hours everyday in addition to three hours at the coaching centre.

Shivani, 24, an alumnus of Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law, Patiala, secured 603.88/1050 marks. Shivani, who cleared the exam in her first attempt, had already secured the second rank in Haryana’s judicial exam.

The result of Punjab Civil Services (PCS) (Judicial) was declared by the Punjab Public Service Commission on Friday evening.

Talking to The Tribune, Shivani said, “My hard work has paid off. I used to study on my own for up to nine hours everyday in addition to three hours at the coaching centre.” Shivani said she was fond of reading novels and cooking.

When asked about where she would join, she replied, “I have got two months to think about it. I will make up my mind only after discussing it with my family.”

Another resident from the Ludhiana, Mandeep Kaur, 28, secured seventh rank in the exam by securing 544.44 marks. Savreen Sandhu, daughter of a serving sessions judge, secured the 10th position in the PCS exam.

Other girls who were selected from the city are Khushdeep Kaur, Jaspreet Kaur, Baljinder Kaur and Charanpret Kaur.

Jaspreet Kaur, who secured the third rank in the reserved category, has been working as a District Attorney in Ludhiana. The lone boy from the city, who cleared the judicial exam, is Manpreet Sohi.

Son of DSP bags 6th spot

Sukhmandeep Singh of Bathinda, son of DSP Amarjit Singh Sidhu, secured the sixth rank in the exam. Sidhu, 25, who completed his LLB from Panjab University, Chandigarh, in 2017, has also also been selected in Rajasthan Judicial Service.
