Leh, January 19

Twentyfive progressive farmers, nominated from each of the 25 constituencies of the Ladakh Autonomous Hill Development Council, Leh (LAHDC), will have a week-long exposure tour-cum-training on organic farming in Uttrakhand, starting from January 21 to 27.

The executive councillor for agriculture and environment of the LAHDC, Leh, Phunchok Stanzin, flagged off the tour on Saturday at the Council Secretariat in Leh.

The first-ever exposure tour on organic farming for farmers of Ladakh is part of the LAHDC Leh policy on organic agriculture, titled Mission Organic Development Initiative (MODI), in which entire Leh district is targeted to achieve organic farming by 2025.

Congratulating the progressive farmers nominated for first-ever exposure tour outside UT Ladakh under the MODI porgramme, the executive councillor for agriculture, Phunchok Stanzin, urged them to make their tour meaningful by gathering maximum knowledge and know-how in organic farming.

He said assessment for benefits would be done from this exposure tour and on that basis, more training would be planned for other progressive farmers of the district by the LAHDC, Leh.

The Chief Agriculture Officer Leh, Tashi Tsetan, said these farmers would visit Uttarakhand State Organic Farming Institute, where they would be provided three-day training on organic farming.— OC
