Karnal: The police have arrested two women and recovered 24.2-kg ganja leaf from them. SP Surinder Singh Bhoria said the women revealed that they had brought the consignment from Delhi's Indira Colony and planned to sell it in small quantities in the district. The anti-narcotic cell raided Deha Basti in the city and arrested Chandermukhi and Chandani with the contraband. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered. tns

Rs17 lakh stolen from ATM

Jhajjar: A group of masked miscreants decamped with Rs17 lakh from an ATM after holding the security guard hostage at Dadri Toa village. They also damaged the CCTV camera before decamping with the cash. The armed-miscreants entered the HDFC ATM booth and held the security guard hostage at pistol point. Thereafter, they broke open the ATM and stole Rs17 lakh from it, sources said. TNS

Man held for Rs 2-lakh heist

Kaithal: The CIA-2 cell of the district police has arrested an accused wanted in looting Rs2 lakh cash and a gold chain at gunpoint from a contractor of Cheeka Mandi. Pargat Singh of Sadarheri village in his complaint on May 8 last said he was a contractor for lifting foodgrains from Cheeka Anaj Mandi. When he left for the mandi to make payment to labourers, armed men on two motorcycles intercepted his vehicle and looted Rs2 lakh cash kept in the car and his gold chain. The accused has been identified as Kashmir Singh of Kallar Majra village. OC

Inspection at silos

Kaithal: To have first-hand information about the storage capacity, management and prospects of increasing capacity, Secretary, Food and Public Distribution Department, Government of India, inspected silos (warehouses) of Adani group in Dhand village of Kaithal on Sunday. He said farmers bring crops to this place through FCI and the crop is kept in these silos under controlled temperature for long duration. He said in mandis, farmers have to wait for long hours to sell their crop and sometimes face rough weather too, but here they can easily sell their crop without goig through the long process in mandis.
