Seventeen government schools in Kangra district will be developed as model schools under the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) scheme.

An SDM-rank officer would personally monitor each government primary school, while the high school and the senior secondary school at Dharamsala would be monitored by the Deputy Commissioner. Every officer would have to dedicate at least three hours every week to the school allotted to him or her.

The project aims at involving community by roping in retired teachers and intellectuals staying in Kangra district to teach and give valuable inputs to the schools selected under the project.

The funds provided under the CSR programme by REC Ltd for the project would be used to develop smart classes, renovate school buildings, libraries, play equipment and providing the latest technology to students.

The Deputy Commissioner said that though initially the project was being started in 17 schools, it would soon be replicated in other schools as well. “We hope that the shortlisted schools will act as model institutions and the experiment will be replicated in other schools as well,” he added.
