139 deaths on railway tracks, stations in dist

The Patiala district witnessed 139 deaths on rail tracks and at railway stations in 2019. These include 97 deaths due to accidents.

Officials said most of the deaths recorded were found to have occurred due to accidents on tracks because of vehicles and pedestrians trying to cross them.

The manner of death of the victims has been recorded on the basis of statements given by members of their family.

Officials said as many as 22 suicidal deaths were recorded, along with 19 natural deaths. Also, one man died due to electrocution.

The Government Railway Police (GRP) have also recovered bottles of liquor, drug pills and other intoxicants from railway stations in the region. Gurdarshan Singh, Station House Officer, GRP Patiala, said a few died due to natural causes, including death while waiting for trains at the railway station.
