An alumnus of Punjab University, whenever Sunil Grover visits Chandigarh, it is like homecoming. This time around, he is here for a show at the Tagore Theatre.

A fitness enthusiast himself, he says “Laughter is the key... those who laugh a lot stay fit and fit people are happy people.” But his way to fitness is also gossiping! “There are days when I go to the gym just to socialise. I like to disturb people while they are working out. I would go about saying, ‘so, what’s happening, what are you doing.’ Then I start giving them gyaan, discussing latest news or weather updates. Even such talks keep people fit. Gossip is important for fitness. It helps vent out. I don’t indulge much in it, but it can be fun.”

Being social

Sunil thinks any one-to-one interaction is a good idea, considering the obsession about social media these days. “People are so much into social media that personal conversations have become so rare. Everywhere, it’s all about updating your social media posts. We should meet friends often, talk about various things, whether useful or random.”

What about his interest in social media, after all his profession needs him to be up to date. “I am into social media as per need. Initially, people around me would scare me to keep my social media profiles updated, but I didn’t give into the pressure. It’s there, I use it but I am not overwhelmed by it.”

Experimental mode

He has been into weight training for the last three months, as part of his preparations for an upcoming web series, where he is not playing a comedian. Theatre, stand-up comedy, TV shows, films and now web series, so what does he enjoy the most? “I feel really nice to approach work in different ways. Of course, it’s a medium to entertain the audience but while exploring new things, even I get entertained. It’s fun to experiment with various mediums.”

No grudges

Sunil rose to fame with his stint as Gutthi on The Kapil Sharma Show. When the two parted, the fans were upset, but we did see him in his most-loved avatar, Gutthi, in Bigg Boss recently. Then, there were pictures doing the rounds that Salman Khan has been instrumental in bringing the two together... is there good news in the offing? “I of course met him at that party but there is no such discussion about coming back together. I am a well-wisher of Kapil and even he has immense love for me. All is fine.”

Does that mean the two are past the grudges of the past? “There are no grudges, there never were. Sometimes things happen that shouldn’t have happened, but we have moved ahead. If there is any development about working together, I will come out in the open.”

People’s person

Sunil doesn't mind that his personal life becomes public. He says it's a choice he has made. "When people love you, they want to know about you. It's a part of my job to stay connected with the viewers. Since I knew what I was getting into, I have learnt to live with such elements and make peace with them."
