The court of Rohtak Additional Sessions Judge-cum-Special Judge Rajinder Pal Goyal has sentenced a local youth, Rahul, to life imprisonment for intimidating and abducting a minor Scheduled Caste (SC) girl, compelling her for marriage and defaming her on the social media.

The counsel for the complainant, SP Dhankhar, in an order passed here on Tuesday, said the court had sentenced Rahul to life imprisonment under Section 3 (2) (v) of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.

The youth, who was also convicted under several sections of the IPC, has been sentenced to undergo rigorous imprisonment for 5 years under Section 366 (kidnapping, abducting or inducing a woman to compel her for marriage), for one year under Section 500 (defamation), two years under Section 506 (criminal intimidation) and two years under Section 363 (kidnapping) by the court.

In a complaint lodged with the police, the girl’s mother had alleged that Rahul, who lived in their neighbourhood, had been stalking her 16-year-old daughter.
