Youth dies of drug overdose in Faridkot

FARIDKOT: A 24-year-old youth, identified as Gurpreet Singh of Faridkot, allegedly died due to drug overdose on Thursday.

A 24-year-old youth, identified as Gurpreet Singh of Faridkot, allegedly died due to drug overdose on Thursday.

According to the family members, Gurpreet was in a habit of consuming drugs and on Wednesday evening, he returned home heavily intoxicated.

After his condition started deteriorating due to overdose of drugs, he was taken to the Civil Hospital where his father is a class IV employee.

However, doctors could not save him as his body did not respond to any medicine. The deceased is survived by a four-year-old son, wife and parents.

Gurpreet’s death in Faridkot is the third incident of drugs overdose snuffing out a human life in Faridkot.

Last month, on October 9, two youths — 35 and 26 —died of suspected drug overdose in Faridkot. Both residents of Sanjay Nagar, a dwelling of daily wagers in the town, Harjinder Singh and Sukhjit Singh alias Sunny died at Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital and Civil Hospital, Faridkot.

They had allegedly taken heavy dose of some drugs intravenously and had fallen unconscious, never to awake.

On August 30, a 23-year-old youth, Ravinder Kumar alias Bittu, of Jaito town had also died due to overdose of drugs.

Family members of Gurpreet Singh and those living in the vicinity of the deceased alleged that drugs were available without any problem in the area but only at spiked prices after the state government claimed of having tightened the noose around drug suppliers.
