A youth in his mid twenties was mauled to death by stray dogs at Farour village, near here, last night. The body has been kept at the mortuary of Samrala Civil Hospital for identification.

According to information, an unidentified youth was walking near the railway line round 8 pm near Farour village when a pack of 20-22 dogs attacked him and mauled him to death.

After hearing the youth’s cries, passers-by gathered there and tried to scare away the dogs. But the dogs left the body only after eating all skin of the youth. Meanwhile, more people gathered there and they managed to scare away the dogs.

Manjit Singh, in charge of Railway Chowki at Samrala, said the identification of the youth could not be established as the dogs had eaten all the skin of the youth and left behind only a skeleton. They are trying to identify the youth by showing his cloths to people of the nearby villages.

Packs of stray dogs can be seen roaming near the slaughter houses and other places.
