Lucknow, July 9

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditynath on Tuesday said when the earth was shaking under the atrocities of Babar, it was Guru Nanak who had the courage to raise his voice against him.

Speaking at a function organised at his official residence regarding Guru Nanak’s 550th Parkash Utsav, Yogi said his government and people should together decide on how to celebrate the occasion and promote the places associated with the Guru.

He said today there was hardly an Indian who did not have respect for the traditions of the Guru. He said the traditions started by Guru Nanak were important for the security of not only the Sikh community, but also the entire country.

After starting the practice of celebrating Diwali at a grand scale at the Saryu Ghat in Ayodhya, Yogi today started the tradition of organising “shabad-kirtan” and “langar” at his residence.

Today’s programme was attended among others by members of the UP Cabinet and around 200 to 250 eminent members of the Sikh community in the city.

The Shri Guru Nanak Sandesh Yatra started from Kanpur’s Baba Namdev Gurdwara early in the morning and arrived at the CM’s residence around 11 am.

After the “shabad-kirtan” and “langar” at his residence, the CM sent off the yatra on its onward journey to Ayodhya where it will halt at Gurdwara Brahmkund and culminate at Nazarbagh Gurdwara associated with the Gurus.
