Yoga week begins at CUP

BATHINDA: To mark International Yoga Day, a week-long yoga camp began at the Central University of Punjab (CUP) here on Thursday.

To mark International Yoga Day, a week-long yoga camp began at the Central University of Punjab (CUP) here on Thursday. The aim of the camp is to spread awareness about health and fitness among the youth. The camp will conclude on June 21.

Vijendra Sharma, a yoga trainer at Bharat Swabhiman Trust, and Prof Jagdeep Singh, Registrar, CUP, were the keynote speakers on the first day. Besides, staff members and students also participated.

Sports officer Gagandeep unveiled the theme of the camp. Sharma spoke about the importance of yoga and exercise for a healthy body and a healthy soul. He, along with his colleague Gurmeet Singh, demonstrated various pranayamas and ashtanga yoga.

He motivated the gathering to try basic breathing exercises (pranayamas) such as bhastrika, kapalbhati, bhramari, anulom vilom and bahya.

He also advised the youth to spare some time for the ashtanga yoga exercise.
