Y’nagar hospital to get 100 more beds

The Mukand Lal District Civil Hospital, Yamunanagar, will be upgraded to a 200-bedded facility from the existing 100 beds. The construction of the new building has started and the upgraded hospital will boost health care services in Yamunanagar district. The project is to be completed in 18 months.

In 2014, Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had announced the upgrade of the hospital from 100 beds to 200 beds at a cost of Rs 77 crore. Once the new facility is ready, more employees will be engaged to maintain it. 

The site plan of the new hospital building has already been passed. According to the site plan, the main block building will acquire 5,500 square metres while the administrative block will acquire 1,500 square metres. Besides, 365 square metres are marked for a mortuary. 

The main block building will have four stories with a basement. According to the building plan, an emergency block, OPDs, labs, plaster room and a dressing room will be on the ground floor.  

The dental and maternity wings will be on the first floor, private and general wards on the second floor while wards, staffrooms, canteen and the hospital kitchen will be on the third floor. The operating theatre and the intensive care unit will be on the fourth floor.

The administrative block will be separate from the main block and close to the trauma centre. It will have a three-storied building with a basement. The offices of the Civil Surgeon and the Medical Superintendent will be in the administrative block.

Dr Vijay Dahiya, officiating Civil Surgeon, Yamunanagar, says that the hospital sees 1,200 to 1,400 patients in OPDs and indoor patient departments (IPD) every day. 

He says that at present patients face problems in getting beds in the hospital but after the addition of 100 more beds the issue will be resolved to a large extent.

Dr Dahiya says that while the old building is going to be demolished for the new construction, the trauma centre, special newborn care unit and the Ayush building will stay intact.

He adds that when the new building comes up, a heart care centre will also be started there on the public private partnership (PPP) mode.

Waryam Singh, an advocate and social worker, says, “It’s a good initiative of the government. With the upgrade of the hospital, the people of Yamunanagar district will get better health services”.
