Bathinda, March 9

Datar Educational and Environmental Society will organise a three-day environment awareness camp and a plantation drive at Gill Patti from March 11 to 13. Members of the society shared information during a press conference at the Bathinda Press Club here on Saturday.

Addressing mediapersons, Baljeet Singh said, “During the three-day plantation drive-cum-workshop, we would teach people regarding a Japanese plantation technique, Akira Miyawaki. We will have experts from Bengaluru and Mumbai who would impart training to people.”

“We have named the campaign, ‘Guru Nanak Pavitar Jungle’ dedicated it to the first Sikh Guru on his 550th birth anniversary. We will start from Gill Patti village and then move to other villages in the district as well as the state in future. The aim is to ensure clean and pollution-free environment. The Japanese plantation technique, Miyawaki, is instrumental in growing more plants in smaller tracts of lands. Moreover, plants grown using this technique do not die easily and can be easily maintained. For the drive, we will not use any hybrid plants.”

These plantation drives will ensure sound ecological diversity with different birds, animals, plants and organisms in it. We will have 50 different varieties with major focus on maximum oxygen giving plants. We are conducting this campaign in collaboration with Eco Sikh, an environmental protection NGO (non-governmental organisation) in the state,” added Baljeet Singh.
