Workshop on gas chromatography held at CUP

A workshop on gas chromatography and mass spectrometer applications and sample preparation techniques was organised by the Central Instrumentation Laboratory (CIL) division of the Central University of Punjab on Saturday.

A one-day workshop was organised in collaboration with Toshvin Analytical Pvt Ltd and Shimazu India (a unit of Japanese company that manufactures sophisticated laboratory equipment). Research scholars and working professionals from different parts of the country participated in the workshop.

The event started with the briefing by Dr Raj Kumar, in-charge, CIL, about the sophisticated high-end technology available at CIL, its facilities and achievements. It was followed by an address to the participants by prof Ramakrishna Wusirika, head, department of Biochemistry and Microbial Sciences, who dwelt upon the importance of instrumentation in research activities, especially from the biological perspective.

Nitin Suryanshi, application chemist from Shimazu, said India gave a comprehensive presentation about the sample preparation and applications of SQ-GCMS (gas chromatography–mass spectrometry) and TQ-GCMS (gas chromatography–mass spectrometry, a chemical analysis techique).
