Chandigarh, May 2

The court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) today granted bail to the 38-year-old woman, who posed as an advocate. Kamini Sharma, a resident of Sector 44, was arrested on Tuesday on the complaint of Vikas Malik, vice-president, Bar Association, Punjab and Haryana High Court, Chandigarh.

Malik alleged that Kamini misrepresented herself as an advocate without having any law degree, authority and enrolment with the Bar Council at the High Court.

On his complaint, a case under Sections 419 (punishment for cheating by impersonation) and 420 (cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property) of the IPC was registered at the Sector 3 police station against Kamini. She was sent to judicial custody on Wednesday.

Seeking bail, defence counsel pleaded that the woman was arrested from outside the courtroom. Before appearing in a case, the advocate had to sign in a register, but her signatures were nowhere in any of the registers, argued counsel.
