A courageous woman caught hold of a snatcher, who tried to flee after snatching her mobile phone, making him fell from his two-wheeler here on Sunday. The accused, identified as Inderjit Singh, a resident of Kairowal village in Tarn Taran, has been arrested.

Ravneet Kaur caught the snatcher by his clothes. As she raised the alarm, passersby overpowered him and handed over to the police.

Ravneet stated to the police that at around 5.30 pm on Sunday she was returning home after meeting her sister Prabhjot Kaur at her paying guest accommodation in New Dashmesh Nagar, located opposite to Khalsa College here. She said she was on foot while the accused was riding a scooter. He snatched her mobile phone and tried to speed away when she caught hold of him by his clothes and raised the alarm. Following this, passersby pounced on the snatcher and overpowered him in no time.

The police have registered a case under Section 379-B of the IPC. His scooter has also been impounded.

Meanwhile, Suman Arora, a resident of Gali Suniara, Namak Mandi, was looted by two youths when she was returning from Dera Beas late on Sunday evening. She alighted from a bus near Bhagtanwala and was going to her home on foot when two youths pushed her and took away her bag, containing a mobile phone, Rs 1,000 and some documents. The police have registered a case in this connection.

Overpowered by passersby

  • The snatcher, identified as Inderjit Singh, a resident of Kairowal village in Tarn Taran, tried to snatch the mobile phone of a woman, who was on foot. 
  • The woman, Ravneet Kaur, reacted immediately and caught the snatcher by his clothes, making him fall down from his two-wheeler.
  • As she raised the alarm, passersby gathered and overpowered the accused, who was later handed over to the police.
