Woman run over by crane

A resident of Power Colony, Ramsati Yadav (54), was killed after a crane carrying power transformer ran her over at the entrance gate of the colony here today. She was returning home from temple.

The driver of the crane identified as Nirmal Singh, alias Nimma, fled from the spot while the police initiated action against him.

According to information, the victim had gone a few metres from the entrance gate of the Power Colony when the crane carrying transformer came. The driver apparently could not see the woman due to transformer. As the crane was speeding, it ran over the victim killing her on the spot.

Son of the deceased, Kalika Parshad, said his father died two years ago. He is employed in power corporation.

He said the driver was identified as Nirmal Singh Nimma during the police investigation. It was his negligence, which led to the incident, he added. He alleged that even the gatekeeper did not signal the driver that a woman was there and he should drive carefully. He urged police officials to arrest the suspect immediately.
