The UT police have arrested a woman for committing a theft at a neighbour’s house.

According to the police, complainant Nirmala, a resident of Sector 29, stated that on September 4, she had gone to drop her children to the school at 7.30 am. She returned after 30 minutes and found that someone had entered her house after breaking the kitchen’s door.

She stated that her jewellery items, including a mangalsutra, a locket, earrings and an ear-pin, an ATM card and Rs 5,000 were stolen from her house.

At the same time, Nirmala saw her neighbour Sonjeet Kaur, who was carrying a bag, leaving her house in a hurry. Nirmala stated that Sonjeet knew about the jewellery kept in the almirah of her house. She had suspicion that Sonjeet had stolen her jewellery and cash.

On her complaint, a case was registered at the Industrial Area police station. Acting swiftly, the police arrested the woman and recovered the stolen items from her. She was produced before a court, which sent her to judicial custody. — TNS
