MORINDA: A 50-year-old woman died under mysterious circumstances following a raid by a police party on her home to nab her son, who is absconding in a criminal case, here today.

A 50-year-old woman died under mysterious circumstances following a raid by a police party on her home to nab her son, who is absconding in a criminal case, here today.

Relatives of the deceased, identified as Kulwant Kaur of nearby Marauli village, alleged that the policemen and a few people accompanying them roughed her up during the raid, which led to her death.

Maha Singh, husband of the deceased, said his two sons were booked by the police last year for an alleged scuffle in the village. His one son, Naib Singh, was yet to be arrested and today a police party along with some other people conducted a raid on his home, he said. He alleged that the policemen manhandled his wife which resulted in her death.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Sukhjit Singh Virk, who visited the spot, said the statement of Maha Singh was recorded and an inquiry was initiated into his allegations.
