Panipat, September 23

Javelin thrower and Asian Games gold medallist Neeraj Chopra said that he would think over job offer from the state government.

Chopra, who reached his native Khandra village in the district on Sunday, said that he was working as Naib Subedar in the Army. “The Army is supporting me well. If I get an offer from the state government, I will think over it,” he said.

Hailing the sports policy of the state government, Chopra said players were now working hard to get medals in international tournaments.

About his next target, Chopra said that his main aim was to get a medal in the Olympics and he was preparing for it.

“I started preparing for the game in 2011 and won several district and national-level events,” he said.

Raj Kumar, an Army coach who accompanied him, said Chopra did very well in 2016 and he approached his family to join the Army. “He has been promoted to the post of Subedar Major after he won the gold medal in the Asian Games held in Jakarta in Indonesia last month,” he added.

Satish Kumar, father of Neeraj, said Chopra had brought laurels to their family, village, state and the country by his hard work.

Meanwhile, villagers welcomed Chopra with flowers and sweets. He reached his native village for first time after clinching gold in the Asian Games.
