Nissar Ahmad Mir, former Joint Secretary in the University Grants Commission (UGC), who has been appointed as the new registrar of the University of Kashmir (KU), says his priority will be to strengthen the system and bring transparency.
Mir’s appointment was cleared by Vice Chancellor Talat Ahmad. The notification for the appointment of the new registrar was issued last year but till now, the appointment had not been made.
On Monday, Mir assumed office as the new registrar. He said his priority would to be to strengthen the system, address the grievances of students and take up projects that have been stuck due to funding issues.
“There are issues of students and staff and I will try to address them. There have also been problems in funding of different projects, which are stuck. I will try to take them up with the authorities,” Mir said.
Earlier, Mir worked as a registrar of the National Institute of Technology, Srinagar.
Mir has a doctorate in sociology. “He has published 30 research papers and has worked on nine research projects funded by different ministries,” said one of the officials at the university.
