Jammu, August 20

The Panun Kashmir on Monday said the displaced Pandits were the biggest sufferers of Article 35A.

Addressing a press conference, Ashwani Kumar Chrungoo, Panun Kashmir president, said protests by some sections against the hearing of the case in the Supreme Court tantamount to pressuring the apex court on the issue.

“Organising strikes in this connection cannot determine the legal or constitutional status of the provision in question. Moreover, the forces who have been opposing the Constitution of India in J&K have no reason to be concerned about the existence or abrogation of Article 35A,” he said.

“Kashmir alone does not represent Jammu and Kashmir. People of Ladakh and Jammu provinces along with the Pandit community have been demanding its abrogation for a long time now,” Chrungoo added.

Meanwhile, Virender Raina, chairman, political affairs committee of Panun Kashmir, demanded a special Bill for the preservation of religious places of minorities in the Valley. — TNS
