Bathinda, January 18

Members of the Water Supply and Sanitation Contract Workers Union on Friday came out in support of teachers and protested by burning an effigy of the state government against termination of teacher union leaders, at Post Office Chowk in the city.

The protest was headed by union leader Sandeep Khan. The protesters termed the state government ‘Hitler’ and condemned the 75 per cent cut in the salaries of the 8,886, SSA/RMSA and Adarsh Model School teachers.

They said the Education Department was trying to threaten the teachers by issuing termination letters. This is department’s new tactic of creating fear in the minds of teachers so that they stop protesting.
