The residents of Nawan Salemshah village protested outside the city police station on Friday against police inaction in a case related to murder of a youth.

The aggrieved family members also demand registration of a murder case under Section 302 of the IPC against the accused.

The sources said Sukhwinder Singh (22), a resident of Nawan Salemshah village, had come to Fazilka to watch Ramleela at Nai Abadi locality on October 9.

Desa Singh brother of the deceased said as Sukhwinder was returning back to his village, half a dozen people alleged kidnapped him. He allegedly that Sukhwinder was thrashed and tortured. He alleged that his brother was kidnapped over allegations of having “illicit relations” with a girl of the village.

Sukhwinder was shifted to the Civil Hospital, Fazilka, from where he was referred to the Medical College, Faridkot, for further treatment.

The cops said they received a call from the city police station, Faridkot, on October 18 that Sukhwinder had died during the treatment.

The city police, Fazilka, have booked Jagdish Singh his father Munsha Singh, Chhinda Singh, Santokh Singh, Prem Singh and one unidentified person under Sections 304, 342, 148 and 149 of the IPC.

Fazilka city police station SHO Luvmeet Kaur said the demand of agitators has been accepted and Section 302 would be added in an FIR.
