Union MoS and local MP Vijay Sampla flagged off the new Jaijon Doaba-Amritsar train at Jaijon on Thursday.

Sampla said people of the region were awaiting the expansion of rail connectivity for long and the new train would fulfill their expectations.

He added that BJP vice-president Avinash Rai Khanna had initiated the process for the expansion in the area when he was the MP.

“The dream has come true due to my persistent efforts and continuous follow ups. The train, which earlier used to ferry passengers to Jalandhar, will now reach Amritsar. It will not only connect Mahilpur, Saila Khurd, Garhshankar and surrounding areas with Amritsar, but will also facilitate the devotees in visiting the Golden Temple, Durgiana Mandir, Jallianwala Bagh and Ram Tirath Temple in Amritsar,” he added.

The minister said people would also get substantial benefits. “The journey from Jaijon to Amritsar will cost just Rs40 and people will be able to return from Amritsar on the same day via Garshankar, Nawanshahar, Banga, Phagwara, Jalandhar and Beas. It will promote trade and industry in this region as well,” Sampla added.

Khanna also attended the function and said the Modi government had started several schemes for the common man. He urged the people to get the maximum benefit of these schemes and added that the rail service was a part of these schemes.

DRM Vivek Kumar was also present on the occasion. Schoolchildren of the village gave colourful performances.
