Video of assault on youth goes viral

The Haroli police in Una, HP, have lodged an FIR against unidentified suspects for beating a youth, Avtar, a resident of Saleran village in Hoshiarpur, mercilessly over an online purchase of a camera.

The FIR has been lodged after a video clip went viral on social media in which a group of youths could be seen assaulting the youth with fist blows, kicks and a wooden bat.

It was learnt that the video was shot on April 26 at a poultry farm in Ispur village under the Haroli police station in Una district. The police claim that one of the suspects has been identified and attempts were on to identify others.

The video was forwarded to various police stations and police posts in Una district on the directions of Una SP Diwakar Sharma.

During the investigation, it came out that on April 26, some youths took a young man along with them to the Una police and gave a complaint related to an online camera purchase.

Three teams have been formed by the Haroli police, which are trying to identify and nab the suspects who attacked the victim.

The victim joined the investigation and visited the Pandogha police post under the Haroli police station on Monday along with his father and the sarpanch of his village Navjinder Singh Bedi.

According to Bedi, Avtar told him that he had gone to HP with Anmol on his motorcycle. He did not knew that Anmol had a quarrel with some persons over online purchase of a camera.

Anmol left him at the bus stand of Gagret and had asked him to wait for some people who would give him a camera while he would wait at another point. All of a sudden a group of youths surrounded him and started beating him.

The youths reportedly took him to a poultry farm in Ispur village where they assaulted him. Then they took him to the Una police and complained against him regarding the dispute in the online transaction.
