The Vishawa Hindu Parishad said on Tuesday that it would hold off its agitation for Ram Mandir until April.

“We’re putting off the protests because we don't want to make it a chunavi mudda (election issue),” senior VHP leader Surendra Jain said. “What the people decide we don't know. But we’re sure that whoever is in power, whichever party forms the government, they will listen to our demand of making a Ram Temple at Ayodhya.”

As General Elections approach, several Hindu right organisations are mounting pressure on the central government to have a temple built at the disputed site in Ayodhya. The Supreme Court is currently holding hearings to settle the land dispute.

Hindu organisations want the central government to resort to issuing an ordinance to have the temple built.

General Elections are due in April-May.
