BK Jha, Principal Chief Commissioner, Income Tax, inaugurated a vertical garden, developed by the Income Tax Department, here on Friday.
Terming it an important step for the preservation of environment, Jha said the department had developed 175 such vertical gardens in Amritsar and Ludhiana. Besides, several such gardens have been established at schools. He said similar gardens would also be established by the department at Sri Damdama Sahib in Bathinda, Darbar Sahib in Tarn Taran, railway station, Income Tax office in Chandigarh, many schools and jails in Punjab.
He said the vertical gardens not only helped beautify walls but also decreased air pollution and global warming besides utilising the waste plastic bottles.
Principal Commissioner S K Rastogi, Principal Commissioner (Ludhiana) Praneet Sachdeva, Additional Commissioner (Ludhiana) Rohit Mehra, Joint commissioner Umesh Chandra, Joint Commissioner Ratinder Kaur Sidhu, and other officials along with PN Arora , president, Amritsar Income Tax Bar Association, were present.
