Kurukshetra, January 17

The Kurukshetra University (KU) on Thursday upgraded University College (UC) into a full-fledged teaching department.

Located on the university campus, the college has been re-designated as the Institute of Integrated and Honours Studies (IIHS).

Vice-Chancellor Prof KC Sharma said the upgrade of the college was a long-pending demand. The move would benefit the students as well as faculty members.

He also launched a website of the institute.

The University College, which has now been named IIHS, has about 3,500 students enrolled in different undergraduate courses. It has about 35 teachers on the roll.

Now, the IIHS may start postgraduate courses. Also, the faculty members would be able to get professorship.

On the occasion, the V-C said the university had introduced several steps to make the functioning more transparent. E-governance and streamlining of examination branch were among the key initiatives that had started yielding results, he added.
